We are introducing a four-tiered Grading System designed to reflect how students demonstrate each of the seven Cs of Resilience, as outlined by Dr. Ginsburg. These will be recorded on report cards that parents and carers can view on the Arbor app at any time to monitor your child and perhaps offer any additional support at home.
Level 1: Emerging Resilience (Needs Improvement)
Competence: Struggles with problem-solving and decision-making, often feeling overwhelmed in challenging situations.
Confidence: Lacks self-belief and doubts ability to handle stress and adversity.
Connection: Has few or unreliable support systems and tends to isolate during tough times.
Character: Often unclear about values; may struggle to make ethical decisions under pressure.
Contribution: Limited sense of purpose; doesn't engage in helping others or contributing to community. Coping Frequently overwhelmed by stress and lacks healthy coping strategies.
Control: Feels powerless in the face of challenges and struggles to take proactive steps.
Level 2: Developing Resilience (Moderate)
Competence: Shows some ability to solve problems and navigate challenges but still often feels unsure in high-pressure situations.
Confidence: Has moderate self-belief but sometimes struggles with self-doubt or fear of failure.
Connection: Has a few supportive relationships but sometimes feels disconnected or hesitant to lean on others.
Character: Understands core values, but occasionally faces challenges sticking to them in difficult situations.
Contribution: Involved in helping others, but this might be inconsistent or occasional.
Coping: Has some coping strategies but may resort to unhealthy behaviors under stress.
Control: Occasionally takes charge of situations but is still reactive rather than proactive in controlling outcomes.
Level 3: Competent Resilience (Good)
Competence: Generally capable of managing challenges and solving problems effectively, even under pressure.
Confidence: Strong self-belief, trusts their ability to overcome setbacks and tackle new challenges.
Connection: Maintains healthy, reliable relationships with friends, family, or mentors.
Character: Clear about values and ethical standards, makes decisions aligned with these even when it’s difficult.
Contribution: Actively contributes to others’ well-being, feels a sense of purpose in helping the community or others.
Coping: Uses a range of healthy coping mechanisms (e.g., mindfulness, exercise, seeking support) to handle stress.
Control: Takes control of situations where possible, works proactively to shape outcomes.
Level 4: Exceptional Resilience (Outstanding)
Competence: Consistently excels in problem-solving and handles high-pressure situations with calmness and clarity.
Confidence: Exceptionally self-assured, approaches challenges with optimism and trust in their abilities.
Connection: Strong, meaningful relationships, actively nurtures supportive networks and knows when to seek support or offer it.
Character: Demonstrates unwavering clarity of values, acts with integrity even when faced with personal sacrifice.
Contribution: Makes a profound, positive impact on others' lives and feels a deep sense of fulfilment from giving back.
Coping: Mastery of stress management, able to maintain composure in the face of adversity, and frequently helps others cope.
Control: Highly proactive in creating and controlling environments to work in their favour, effectively balancing challenges and resources.
